BE IT PROCLAIMED:  a little science knowledge can help you better enjoy your life.  Three examples:

ONE:  You can control pain levels with your mind.  They’re using mind-over-matter during surgeries right now at Harvard Medical School;  you might try similar techniques the next time you’re at the dentist.

TWO:  Women can know when they’re fertile.  A little acquaintance with your own cervix (and body temperature) and your chances of having — or avoiding — a baby can go way up.

THREE: The flickering screens we stare at can keep us up at night. Did you know that the blue light of computers and televisions can contribute to insomnia?

Is there some corner of your life which’d be brightened by information like that?

On this site I’m going to dig through the wonkiest corners of libraries and PubMed, visit laboratories and clinics, and call the most cutting-edge scientists to bring you stories, studies, and life-hacking DIY health info about brain chemistry/addiction, sleep/insomnia, anxiety/relaxation, back pain, and the beautiful mysteries of the reproductive system.

Stay tuned for my first volleys, “The Cervix Files,” and “Secrets of the Sleep Lab,” which’ll begin in spring 2011.
